Pirates and Halloween-11-2-23

In 2019, on our world cruise, we were briefed on the slight potential of Somali pirates and the ship’s interdiction action as we sailed through the Gulf of Aden. Watch-outs were posted 24/7 through the Gulf and water cannons were readied should there had been an event. In January 2023, the Indian Ocean High Risk Area (HRA) was lifted due to a significant absence of Somali pirate attacks over the past few years. Today the Captain Freher announced we will pass the 10 mile wide stretch through the Gulf at 8:30 AM and he remarked piracy is not a business plan any longer. Still ship captains are strongly advised to maintain a state of vigilance to ensure the safety and security of their vessel which I have no doubt he will. Last night was a belated Halloween event.  Costumes were evident and the cumulative event was the costume judging. Two more sea days before Salalah, Oman, the port that was added when we had to cancel Aqaba, Jordan.
