A cruise
critic tour, fellow passengers that organizes and invites CC members to join, was
the order of the day, City Highlights. Our guide showed us the Kasbah, (fort)
damaged by the recent earthquake but still a fortress on the hill overlooking
this city of 300,000. Mohammad the VI is the king of Morocco and according to
our guide benevolent. He stressed he has
given freedom to women and schools as well as all religions; Jewish, Christian
and Muslims. He also commented that
human capital makes a nation strong.
After the Kasbah a stop at a park with intricate stone walls and
entrances and on to the Mosque for a look outside. The giant Sunday Souk, open every day, has 13
gates each named for a city. It is a
Walmart on steroids. Food, furniture, spices, housewares, clothing, ceramics.
The Argan oil cooperative told the story of the women coming together working
to bring this oil to the world. The hard
seed must be cracked the kernel extracted from the seed, all done by hand. The
oil is versatile and used for cosmetics and used for cosmetics, culinary, and remedies. The guide encouraged us to move to Morocco,
buy a house in the Marina for $140,000 and enjoy a mild climate.
The real voyage of discovery consists
not in seeking new landscapes but having new eyes. Proust
